Off-Road Test: GWM TANK 300 CDC Shocks vs. Factory Shocks

Curious how HPR CDC Nitrogen shocks stack up against the GWM TANK 300’s factory shocks? We took both setups on the same off-road trail—complete with rocks, ruts, mud, and steep inclines—to put them to the test. Here’s what we found.

On Rocky Terrain

Factory shocks struggled with large impacts: hitting a 6-inch rock sent a jarring vibration through the cabin, and the TANK 300’s front end bounced unpredictably. The CDC Nitrogen shocks, however, absorbed the impact smoothly—thanks to real-time damping adjustments. The high-performance sensors detected the rock and stiffened the shocks just enough to prevent bottoming out, while keeping the ride comfortable. We could crawl over rocks at 5 mph without white-knuckling the wheel.

In Mud & Ruts

Factory shocks felt soft and unstable in deep mud— the TANK 300 swayed side to side, and traction suffered as the suspension couldn’t keep the tires planted. Switching to CDC’s Professional Mode changed everything: the shocks adjusted to keep the vehicle level, reducing body roll and improving grip. We navigated ruts that would have bogged down the factory setup with ease, and the nitrogen-charged design prevented shock fade even after 30 minutes of mud driving.

On High-Speed Dirt Trails

At 40 mph on a gravel trail, factory shocks allowed excessive body roll around turns—we had to slow down to avoid sliding. CDC’s Sport Mode stiffened the damping, keeping the TANK 300 flat and responsive. The shocks adapted to quick changes in terrain (from gravel to hardpack) without missing a beat, and the ride was surprisingly smooth for a high-speed off-road run.

Verdict

The factory shocks are fine for casual driving, but for serious off-roading, HPR CDC Nitrogen shocks are a game-changer. They offer better stability, smoother rides, and customizable performance that adapts to whatever the trail throws at you. If you’re someone who pushes their TANK 300 to the limit, the upgrade is worth every penny.TANK 300 CDC Electronic control Nitrogen shocks -1TANK 300 CDC Electronic control Nitrogen shocks -1
